Lone Wolf by K.C. Mills was my first supernatural read, and I really enjoyed it. Most times, I forgot that I was even reading about wolves. This was an incredibly short read, but I was pleasantly surprised and in awe about how the author was able to develop the characters and create such chemistry within in them in such few pages.
This short read is about Jo and Laz, two wolves that were immediately drawn to one another. Laz, the Alpha wolf, knew from the beginning who his mate was and it became his mission to tie her down. Although Jo felt the connection immediately, she was hesitant to oblige so soon. So, she did what anyone would do in their moment of fear. She ran. Laz was up for the challenge, though, and when they finally mated, there was no denying their connection. She was “home”.
My summary doesn’t do the story justice. K.C. Mills wrote this story beautifully and was able to capture just how connected the two really were—so much so, that it reminded me of a topic that was hot a few years ago. Soul ties.
According to Ashley Starwood, social worker, relationship therapist, and author of Writing with Love, soul tie connections “typically transcend normal attachment patterns, so it’s way more intense than your usual friendship or romantic relationship.” Characteristics of soul ties include:
1.) You feel connected on a deeper level
2.) They elicit strong reactions from you
3.) They feel familiar
4.) You may feel like they complete you
5.) Your relationship feels unique or one-of-a-kind
6.) They showed up at a significant time
7.) A part of you feels like it’s missing if they’re not in your life (https://www.mindbodygreen.com/articles/soul-ties).
There’s no way of knowing if author K.C. Mills had the intention of depicting these two as having a soul tie connection, but they literally had all of these characteristics. I loved reading about them, and I’m sure you will too.
What are y’all’s thoughts on soul ties? Do you believe in them? Do you feel like you’ve ever had a soul tie connection with someone? Was it a good experience? Let’s talk in the comments below!
