Chopping it up with Sabrina B Scales

Where did you get your love of books/storytelling/reading/writing/etc come from?

SBS: I can’t pinpoint it since it’s been a part of my life for so long now, but I’m pretty sure I picked up my love of storytelling from my daddy who told stories in a way that made people gather around to listen. My love for reading spurred from that and writing came as naturally as speaking since I was about six years old.

Any author(s) that you feel influenced your writing?

SBS: I’ve always idolized Toni Morrison, Terri McMillan, and Maya Angelou. The way they captured their experiences as black women and delivered them to us was so raw and real and witty. I could go on and on!

What inspires you?

SBS: Growth.

What are your top 3 favorite books of all time?

SBS: The Color Purple three times.

How do you research for your books?

SBS: Lord, this question is triggering! Lol. Depending on the character, their career or background, some of my research requires interviewing actual people or reflecting on experiences. But most of the time, I deep dive into Google for documentaries and articles. And since it’s no secret that my characters be fuckin’, I sometimes visit pornhub for inspiration...

What is your work schedule like when you're writing?

SBS: Strained AF!!!

If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be?

SBS: Nothing in this world will be more fulfilling than this gift that God gave you. Don’t waste another minute pretending that you don’t know.

Which one of your books is your favorite?

SBS: The answer changes every time I’m asked. This week, it’s “Plus”!

What are you working on now?

SBS: I am currently working on Book two of “The Crew” series.

Where can readers find out more about you & your work?

SBS: I’m all over the internet acting a plum fool!!!
